Practicing breathing exercises anytime, everywhere, all at once!

Breathing exercises are a simple but effective way to reduce stress, increase focus, and improve your overall wellbeing. The great thing about breathing exercises is that they can be done anywhere and everywhere – whether you're at home, at work, or on the go. Lets explore some fun and creative ways to practice breathing exercises no matter where you are.

The Traffic Light Method

One simple breathing exercise you can practice while driving is the Traffic Light Method.

Traditionally, to practice traffic light breathing, first, find a comfortable and quiet place to sit or lie down. Then, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Visualize a traffic light in your mind. When you inhale, imagine the light turning from red to yellow, and when you exhale, imagine the light turning from yellow to green.

Alternatively, you can also practice breathing when you hit a traffic light in the car. As soon as you hit a red light, take a deep breath (DONT CLOSE YOUR EYES!), hold it as long as you can, and slowly exhale the air. Hitting a red light can be stressful especially when you’re in a rush, but conditioning yourself to do this can be a great reminder to not let the emotions take control of you.

The Desk Chair Method

If you spend a lot of time sitting at a desk, the Desk Chair Method is a great way to sneak in some breathing exercises throughout the day. Sit up straight and take a deep breath in for four counts. Hold the breath for two counts, and then exhale for six counts. Repeat this pattern for a few minutes, and you'll feel more alert and focused in no time.

A fun spin to this would be to play around with the seat adjuster! Raise the seat to the highest level when you’re doing this and as you exhale, pull on the seat adjuster to “sink down“ into relaxation.

The Nature Walk Method

Breathing exercises are a great way to enhance your outdoor experience. While you're out on a nature walk, take deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. Focus on the sounds and smells around you, and take deep breaths of fresh air. This can be a great way to clear your mind and boost your mood.

The Staircase Method

If you have access to a staircase, the Staircase Method is a great way to sneak in some exercise and breathing practice at the same time. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, and take a deep breath in for every step you climb. Exhale for every step you descend. This will help you feel more energized and focused throughout the day.

The Bedtime Method

Breathing exercises are a great way to wind down before bedtime. Lie down on your back and take deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. Focus on relaxing your body and clearing your mind. This can help you fall asleep more easily and get a better night's rest.

Breathing exercises are a simple and effective way to reduce stress and improve your overall wellbeing. With these fun and creative methods, you can practice breathing exercises anywhere and everywhere. Try them out and see how they can improve your day-to-day life!
