As a counselor, my journey into the world of psychology began at the age of fifteen for me, being the “relationship advice” guy to my friends back in high school.
By the time I was twenty-one, I had become a youth leader helping pre-teens with relationships, studies and self-esteem problems.
Fast forward to today, I find myself partnering with individuals, academic institutes, and organizations to tackle mental health on a personal and systemic scale in Malaysia.
But the journey wasn’t always smooth as completing my masters in counseling came at a significant toll.
As tuition fees dried up the last of my finances, I went through a break up and I started to seriously questioned if my decision to pursue this path was worth it.
Depression sank in deep and long. I had to humbly admit that being in mental health doesn’t immune me to mental health issues. With the help of a my support system, I was able to grow and develop a comprehensive understanding and remember why I chose to pursue this career path all those years ago:
“If I could to dedicate my life to achieve success of any kind, it would be to help others”
This is a snippet of my journey.
One that I would not have made through without the help of others. In the same way, I look forward to hearing yours, and perhaps help you find your way through it as well 🙂
